Bassem Elghawaby is a free verse poet and creative writer who has performed in several Spoken Word events in Ottawa, as well as competitions virtually. His debut work is a 25 year compilation that speaks from a lived experience about bullying, faith, and mental illness, along with other themes from his life.
He is the Founder of Grassroots Multimedia which has been involved with supporting social causes and advocacy, including filming a video series around Voices of Muslims Living with Mental Illness, in partnership with muslimlink.ca.
He has a diploma in Business and Entrepreneurship, and certificates in E-Publishing, and Mobile Social Media Management, all from Algonquin College. He has forged rich relationships across academia, industry, and nonprofits, creating and working on projects and events with meaningful impact.
He has put his heart, soul, and experiences at centre stage in publishing Solemn Stream – A Poetic Journey through Faith and Bipolar, and wishes to reach that person that was struggling like him 10, 15, 25 years ago and letting them know they’re not alone, and the road can shift to smoother terrain.
He resides in Ottawa, Canada, and enjoys time with family, friends, and diverse communities.
